First Selectman Fred Camillo has announced the Town of Greenwich will host a Stand With Israel unity rally on Friday, Oct. 13, at 11:30 a.m. outside of Town Hall.
The event is being put together in partnership between the Town, UJA JCC Greenwich and AJC Westchester/Fairfield. It will feature local religious and Town leaders coming together with the public to show unwavering support for the nation of Israel following the terrorist attacks of last weekend.
The Town of Greenwich will raise the Israeli flag as part of the event to show solidarity with Israel during this ongoing war.
“Every day we are learning more about the horrors of this unprovoked attack on Israel,” First Selectman Camillo said. “The deliberate attacks against innocent civilians, particularly children, shock the soul. Acts of violence that should be unimaginable have been committed against innocent people by terrorists. These were the acts of despicable cowards and we will gather in solidarity to stand strong in the face of terror and show all of our Jewish residents that they have a safe home here in Greenwich, a Town that stands against acts of evil.”
In April, the Board of Selectmen unanimously signed onto a statement that adopted the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s working definition of antisemitism. The Board made a commitment in that action to continue to stand against hate and bigotry.
“Antisemitism and bigotry have no home here in Greenwich,” Camillo said. “I will be standing together with our community as they grieve. And we will show our support for everyone who has been impacted by this horrific attack.”
Members of the public are invited to come and join in solidarity at Friday’s rally. The event will be held outside of Town Hall. People will not be permitted to bring bags or backpacks to the event.
