3. How can I check my party affiliation? How can I change my party affiliation?

First, check your existing affiliation by clicking here.

You must fill out a new application to vote and indicate the party with which you want to affiliate. If you are a member of a party and want to transfer between parties, it takes three months from the date you apply until your new party affiliation is effective. If you are an unaffiliated voter and want to join a party, complete the voter registration form and your new affiliation is effective immediately.

4. Where do I vote? How do I find my polling place?

Once you register to vote, and you are provided your polling, you will always vote at the same location for every election until you change your residence.

5. I need an absentee ballot because I will be out of town. How do I obtain one?

The Registrars of Voters do not issue Absentee Ballots.  We do not track receipt of absentee ballots.  We do not handle overseas ballots.

The Secretary of the State has issued an interpretation of "illness" during the COVID 19 pandemic. This may affect your ability to obtain an absentee ballot.  Please read more regarding the interpretation here.

Applications for Absentee Ballots can be requested by visiting the Town Clerk’s office at the Town Hall or by calling 203.622.7897 or online by clicking this link.  Applications are available in English and Spanish.

Completed applications should be mailed to the Town Clerk’s office at 101 Field Point Road, Greenwich, CT 06830

Applications may also be delivered in person.

Once the application is received by the Town Clerk, she will mail the ballot to the address specified on your application.

6. How do I check the status of my absentee ballot?

7. When are the polls open?

The polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

8. What are the key dates for the November 7, 2023 Election?

The Nov 7, 2023 polling hours are 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Registration Deadlines for the November 7, 2023 Election

• The deadline for voter registration by mail is Oct 31, 2023 (received, post-marked, hand delivered)
• The deadline for voter registration in person is Oct 31, 2023 by 8 p.m.
• The deadline for online voter registration is Oct 31, 2023 by 11:59 p.m.

November 6th:  Limited Registration Session for those whose rights as to age, citizenship or residence mature after Oct 31, 2023. Apply in the Registrars of Voters office until 5 PM. Note that the office will be open an extra hour. 

This Limited Registration is for persons who after Oct 31, 2023:

• Become U.S. Citizens
• Move into Town of Greenwich
• Become 18 years old

Note that the Registrars of Voters Office will have limited extended hours until 5 p.m on Monday, Nov 6, 2023.

9. Will I ever have to re-register?

You must re-register only:

• If you move to another Connecticut town.
• If you change your name (for example by marriage), or your address in town, notify the Office of the Registrar of Voters in your community.
• If you become an "inactive voter" because you have not voted for a period of three consecutive years (including two federal election years) and have not responded to our attempts to contact you.

If you receive a postcard or letter from the Registrar of Voters asking if your name and address are still current, please Send It Back to be certain your name will not become an "inactive voter" removed from the voter list.

10. I moved out of town. How do I remove myself from the voter list?

We have created a form which you can print out and mail in to be removed from the voter rolls.  Unfortunately, state law does not allow us to remove someone due to a telephone call or email.

11. Can I register to vote before I am 18?

You may pre-register beginning when you are 17 years old. Once you are pre-registered, you will automatically be added to the voting list and eligible to vote when you turn 18. If you register with a major political party when you are 17 you will be allowed to vote in that party’s primary as a 17 year old as long as you are 18 by that November election.

12. I am from Greenwich and attending college in Connecticut (or in another state), how do I vote back in my hometown?

You are able to apply for an absentee ballot if you are out of your town on the day of the election and for a few other reasons.

14. Who can vote in a primary election?

Only registered voters affiliated with a political party can vote in that party's election. For example, if you are a registered Democrat, you can vote only in a Democratic primary. Unaffiliated voters cannot vote in any primary election.
