This is First Selectman Fred Camillo with a message for our younger residents and their parents.
Most of us have been smart and respectful in following the CDC guidelines of wearing face masks in public – especially when social distancing is not possible. I cannot stress strongly enough the importance of wearing a mask to help prevent a resurgence of the COVID-19 virus.
You know that we cannot enter a store, restaurant or any public building without a face mask. You get the message and we comply with that rule.
We cannot be complacent, lax, irresponsible and disrespectful by not following that mandate. We are receiving an increased number of complaints about residents – especially younger folks, having large gatherings, picnics, cookouts and swim parties without regard to social distancing and face mask wearing at your homes or in our parks and beaches.
You may be with friends and family but you don’t know who they all have had contact with. They can inadvertently infect you because no one is wearing a mask. So, wear a mask. They won’t get it unless you get it.
And if you have travelled out of state, we want you to follow quarantine guidelines as outlined by the Governor’s executive orders.
As of this week, there have been 871 residents who have tested positive for this virus. Fifty-two of our fellow residents have died.
Public health and safety – including yours - is of paramount importance.
Be smart – practice the four W’s: wash your hands; watch your distance; wipe down surfaces, and wear a mask.
Thank you and stay safe.
