[ARCHIVED] Pets in Cars During the Summer Heat

Dogs in car

It is never safe to leave an animal in a parked vehicle in the Summer temperatures.  It can lead to fatal heatstroke.  Leaving a pet in your vehicle, regardless if the animal survives or succumbs to the heat, can be a      violation of C.G.S. 53-247(a)- Cruelty to Animals, which is a  Misdemeanor for the first offense, a Class D  Felony for subsequent offenses. Connecticut law provides immunity to those who use forcible means—such as smashing a window—to rescue a vulnerable animal in a car. C.G.S.– 52-557u.
