PROCLAMATION from Fred Camillo, First Selectman
WHEREAS, Peter ’Pete’ Siecienski began his firefighting career in 1972 as a volunteer in Danbury where seven years later he was hired as a professional firefighter in 1979; and
WHEREAS, During his 27-year professional career his abilities, and steady leadership served him well as he rose through the ranks, ultimately becoming Chief; and
WHEREAS, After retiring as Danbury Fire Chief in 2006, Pete’s career brought him back to his native Greenwich when he was hired as Assistant Fire Chief in November 2006 which was followed by his promotion to Fire Chief in March 2007; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure he oversaw an improved insurance rating for property owners; the assignment of Officers to apparatus in all seven career fire companies; the renovations of the Glenville station and Headquarters and now the Byram station; a consolidated Public Safety Dispatch system, the hiring of 34 new career firefighters and the purchase of 14 pieces of apparatus; and
WHEREAS, In addition to earning his Executive Fire Officer certification from the National Fire Academy, Pete has taught legions of firefighters as an adjunct instructor for Connecticut State University system; and
WHEREAS, After 48 years of service to both the Danbury and Greenwich communities, Pete is retiring his turnout gear to spend more time with his family, especially his wife Pat, their son Steve, daughter Lauren and grandson Brody, puppy Shiloh, all while finding some time to pursue his golf and fishing hobbies.
NOW, THEREFORE, l, Fred Camillo, FIRST SELECTMAN OF THE TOWN OF GREENWICH, do
hereby proclaim Friday, May 29, 2020 as
Chief Pete Siecienski Day
in the Town of Greenwich and urge all citizens to join me in celebrating and in recognizing Chief Pete’s contributions to our Town and in wishing him well in his retirement and future endeavors.
