PROCLAMATION from Fred Camillo, First Selectman

WHEREAS, The National Day of Prayer is an American tradition first proclaimed by the Continental Congress in 1779; and

WHEREAS, The Declaration of Independence, our first statement as Americans of national purpose and identity, asserted that people have inalienable rights that are God-given; and

WHEREAS, The Supreme Court has affirmed the right of state legislatures to open their sessions with prayer and the Supreme Court and the U.S. Congress themselves begin each day with prayer; and

WHEREAS, The National Day of Prayer is an opportunity for Americans to join in united prayer to acknowledge our dependence on God, to give thanks for blessings received, to request healing for wounds endured, and to ask God to guide our leaders and bring wholeness to the United States and her citizens; and

WHEREAS, As duly elected and appointed leaders of this community, I, along with the Board of Selectmen, recognize the civil responsibilities to those whom we serve; and

WHEREAS, In acknowledgement of our dependence upon God for wisdom, courage and guidance, we hereby urge the citizens of Greenwich to pray for the Board of Selectwomen and the Representative Town Committee so they can continue to make the right decisions that will help our community become an even better place in which to live.

NOW, THEREFORE, l, Fred Camillo, FIRST SELECTMAN OF THE TOWN OF GREENWICH, do
