Town Hall is closed to the public and staff until at least May 20, 2020. Inland Wetlands & Watercourses Agency (IWWA) staff are diligently working to ensure we keep serving our residents and businesses to the best of our ability. We appreciate your need to move forward with projects, purchases, and plans. Accordingly, we have set up the following processes to bring our services to you.
Building Permit Questions: If you have questions regarding a building permit, please contact the Building Department directly with these questions for the fastest response.
For those individuals seeking a building permit, the Building Division will circulate the checklist internally to facilitate the process. Please start the process directly with them. You will still need to fill out the IWWA “Greensheet” to determine if you need an IWWA permit.
Inland Wetlands & Watercourses Agency Meetings: Pursuant to Gov. Lamont’s Executive Order (See Executive Order No. 7B) the Inland Wetlands & Watercourses Agency will be holding virtual meetings via Zoom until further notice. These meetings are open to the public. Our upcoming meetings will follow the 2020 meeting schedule. To learn more about the Virtual Wetlands Commission Meetings, go here. Applications are being accepted as described in "Application Submissions" below.
Counter hours: A “virtual” counter for public inquires is staffed daily from 8AM to 4PM. Initial contact with staff should be established via firstname.lastname@example.org. From there, you can work with staff to determine if there are wetlands on a parcel, show them plans, obtain “Greensheet” sign-offs, setup phone calls, etc. Staff will gladly work with you to answer any other questions regarding a property and will generally be able to email you documentation, aerial screenshots, etc.
If you are contacting the department to find out if you need a permit, please complete the “Greensheet” permit-need questionnaire and attach it to your email inquiry.
Application Submissions: Applications are being accepted for all application types. To submit an application, please contact Peter Mangs, Applications Coordinator at email@example.com. Applications, checklists, and other information can be found on this website under Applications and Forms in the dropdown menu. Peter will be happy to guide you through the process.
In addition to the digital submission of your application, you will also need to send in a paper copy of your application with a check to the following address. The mail will be retrieved once a week. You can expect your check to be cashed shortly thereafter.

Application timelines: The following is a general summary of the Orders pertaining to land use that are set forth in Governor Lamont’s Executive Order No. 7l. For more details, please reference the provisions of the Order itself.
Deadlines associated with the application review process that may pass or expire during the public health crisis declared by Governor Lamont on March 10, 2020 may be extended by 90 days. This applies to: a) the commencement or completion of a public hearing; b) the rendering of any board or commission decision required to made within a particular time period; and c) the submission or reporting to any State agency or quasi-public agency. This 90-day extension is in addition to the extensions already allowed by statute. For example, a decision that has a 65-day total extension period now has a 155-day total extension period.
The Executive Order does not affect permit expiration dates or other deadlines established as a condition of approval for permits or directives in IWWA orders to correct. If you are having trouble meeting such conditions, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
