PROCLAMATION from Fred Camillo, First Selectman
WHEREAS, A national Earth Day was established in 1970 to focus attention on the importance of our environment; and
WHEREAS, Earth Day was created to increase awareness of how fragile our environment is and how each individual can make a difference in protecting and preserving our home and community; and
WHEREAS, It is essential to nurture the health of our planet in order that future generations can live in a cleaner, safer environment; and
WHEREAS, We must remain committed to the protection and conservation of our natural resources, especially air, soil, and water quality; and
WHEREAS, We recognize that we share this planet with other species, that we are all part of a fragile ecosystem, and that maintaining species diversity is key to sustainability and our well being; and
WHEREAS, We should remain vigilant about controlling demands on our drinking water supplies, reducing energy consumption, managing our waste by reducing, reusing and recycling, composting, growing and eating healthy foods, and creating a sustainable and a healthy environment; and
WHEREAS, Earth Day is celebrated each year on the 22nd of April. 2020 is the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day and continues to hold significance in our schools and Town.
NOW, THEREFORE, l, Fred Camillo, FIRST SELECTMAN OF THE TOWN OF GREENWICH, do
hereby proclaim April 22, 2020 as
Earth Day in the Town of Greenwich
I urge each student to make every day Earth Day. Make a commitment to conserve and protect our natural resources and live in a sustainable way. In this way, members of our school and community will serve as stewards of our home planet, Earth.
