PROCLAMATION from Fred Camillo, First Selectman
WHEREAS, Thomas Curtin joined the East Port Chester Fire Department on May 3, 1967 at the age of 18; and
WHEREAS, After serving nearly four years in the U.S. Navy, in 1971, Tom returned to Byram and the East Port Chester Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, His service included serving as Department Secretary in 1972; Department President in 1975, 1976, 1985 and 1994; and
WHEREAS, Tom has held several line officer positions including 2nd Lieutenant in 1976; 1st Lieutenant in 1977; Captain in 1978, 1979 and 1982; 1st Assistant Chief as well as Dual Chief in 1983 and Chief in 1984; and
WHEREAS, Tom was one of the first firemen to respond to the Gulliver’s night club fire on June 30, 1974 and helped rescue several trapped patrons before he was overcome by smoke; and
WHEREAS, Tom is a dedicated volunteer to the Byram community including the Fire Department now known as the Byram Fire Department.
NOW, THEREFORE, l, Fred Camillo, FIRST SELECTMAN OF THE TOWN OF GREENWICH, do
hereby proclaim Saturday, March 7, 2020 as
Thomas Curtin Day
in the Town of Greenwich and encourage all our citizens to join me in applauding his many years of dedication and service to the Town and in wishing him many more years of health and happiness.
