Greenwich looks to ’Snapback’ to fight hunger in town

GREENWICH — Food insecurity can be a serious issue for youngsters, as well as as adults, even in an affluent community like Greenwich.

A new partnership among a local charitable group, a nonprofit organization and Town Hall will be expanding a program that provides food assistance to people in need, beginning at four Greenwich schools this winter.

With cuts set to be enacted in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) by Washington, tens of thousands of people who rely on federal food assistance could be disqualified April 1. Local social-service providers, coordinating with the Department of Social Services, are hoping to ensure that the cuts don’t mean people go hungry in Greenwich.
