PROCLAMATION from Fred Camillo, First Selectman
WHEREAS, The Town of Greenwich is proud to recognize Albanian-American Independence Flag Day ceremony and celebration; and
WHEREAS, On November 28, 1912, Ismail Qemali raised the Albanian flag -- a black double-headed eagle on a red background -- proclaiming independence after 500 years of Ottoman occupation; and
WHEREAS, Albanian-Americans in our community have themselves through hard work, community service and contribution to rich history, culture and diversity; and
WHEREAS, Albanian cultural traditions are distinctive for their extraordinary emphasis on hospitality and generosity which no doubt influenced the most famous Albanian of all -- Saint Mother Teresa; and
NOW, THEREFORE, l, Fred Camillo, FIRST SELECTMAN OF THE TOWN OF GREENWICH, do
hereby proclaim Sunday, December 1, 2019 as
Albanian-American Independence Day
in the Town of Greenwich and encourage all our citizens to join me in applauding the Albanian-American community for their many cultural and civic contributions to our Town.
