November 17 designated as John F. Toner Day

 PROCLAMATION from Peter J. Tesei, First Selectman 

WHEREAS, John F. Toner was born at Greenwich Hospital, grew up in Bruce Park, and has spent most of his life in Greenwich. After attending St. Mary Grammar and St. Mary High schools, he earned a Bachelor's of Arts degree in English at Fairfield University; and

WHEREAS, Following that John spent two years in the Peace Corps in Ghana, West Africa where he taught English language and literature in a secondary school. Returning to Greenwich he taught briefly and received a Master of Arts in Teaching before joining Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City for a career of 27 years, most recently in credit risk management; and

WHEREAS, In 1998, he was elected to the Representative Town Meeting from District 2 and in 2008, from District 9. John served on the Appointments, Parks and Recreation, and Public Works committees; and

WHEREAS, He was appointed to the Board of Selectmen in 2015, re-elected in 2015 and 2017, and is now completing his second full two-year term; and

WHEREAS, John's community service includes volunteering with Greenwich Hospital including its Volunteer Auxiliary Board and Board of Trustees, Call-a-Ride, and the Transportation Association of Greenwich. For many years, John spent Saturday mornings at the Book Swap at Greenwich's Resource Recovery Center.

NOW, THEREFORE, l, PETER J. TESEI, FIRST SELECTMAN OF THE TOWN OF GREENWICH, do
hereby proclaim Sunday, November 17, 2019 as
JOHN F. TONER DAY


in the Town of Greenwich and urge all our citizens in applauding Mr. Toner's many years of dedicated service to the Town and in wishing him many more years of health and happiness.
