[Greenwich, CT] – The Town of Greenwich Department of Health will be launching a social media campaign as a tool to increase communications with the public. The Department will begin to utilize social media, most specifically Facebook, as a resource to support, promote and increase the flow of public health information to the community. In today’s society, many people use social media in their daily lives as a preferred method of communication to relay information about themselves and family. The incorporation of a social media tool into the Department of Health’s daily operations will allow the public to obtain information on programs and receive guidance on public health matters. It will also serve as resource to direct the public to other needed services in and outside the community. Using social media will help the Department strengthen the bond they have with residents, specifically in finding out what residents expect from their Department of Health. Last, social media will allow direct communication to a much wider audience on matters such as preparing for emergencies, health alerts such as West Nile Virus (WNV) and Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE), health issues and health hazards. “We are very excited about offering this service to the residents of Greenwich and look forward to receiving their feedback”. stated Caroline Calderone Baisley, Director of Health.
Some topics on Facebook will include, but will not be limited to:
- Weather notification
- Scheduled program specific events offered by the Department
- Promotion of community events and Town information
- Issuance of news releases
- Public health reminders and guidance
- Public health safety concerns
- Messages from local, state and federal agencies
- Emergency preparedness information and guidance
Facebook will serve as a method for members of the public to communicate directly with the Department of Health on health matters, available services and questions pertaining to specific health topics. The Department of Health is fully committed to extending public outreach to all residents in the Greenwich community.
