PROCLAMATION from Fred Camillo, First Selectman
WHEREAS, In 1993, a group of 30 men who had come to Fairfield County from Calabria, Italy, gathered to found a society to celebrate their arrival in the United States; and
WHEREAS, They named this society, in translation, The Sons of Rose, recognizing their original town of Rose near the Calabrian city of Cosenza; and
WHEREAS, They knew that the friendships many of them had maintained in Rose since childhood included deep family relationships over generations; and
WHEREAS, These Rosetani families were determined to make new lives in the United States – with new jobs, new homes, fine educations for their children, the comfort of churches, and the pleasure of old and new friendships with fellow Calabrians and Americans; and
WHEREAS, The Town of Greenwich suggested that, after more than twenty years, a Sister City should be established between Rose and Greenwich, to recognize the strength of the Rosetani community and the changes they created in our area; and
WHEREAS, Our Ambassador-at-Large, Bea Crumbine, was invited to Rose in thanks for her Gemellaggio (Sister City) efforts and was later made a grateful Honorary Citizen of Rose, we therefore celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the founding of the Figli di Rose.
NOW, THEREFORE, l, Fred Camillo, FIRST SELECTMAN OF THE TOWN OF GREENWICH, do
hereby proclaim October 22, 2023 as
Figli Di Rose Day
in the Town of Greenwich and urge all residents to join me in celebrating our Sister City of Rose and the 30th anniversary of the founding of the Figli di Rose.
