PROCLAMATION from Fred Camillo, First Selectman
WHEREAS, Rabbi Mitchell Hurvitz, whom we all know as our beloved Rabbi “Mitch”, has been the Senior Rabbi at Temple Sholom in Greenwich for 28 years; and
WHEREAS, Rabbi Mitch is a scholar, teacher, community activist and preacher and is recognized as one of the prominent religious leaders in the area. He’s an authority within the Conservative Jewish movement on how to create a welcoming environment for Interfaith families in congregations; and
WHEREAS, Rabbi Mitch is the author of numerous popular and scholarly articles and has also written the Introduction to the Jewish Faith and co-authored the Encyclopedia of Judaism; and
WHEREAS, He is also the co-founder of The Sholom Center for Interfaith Learning Fellowship and has given the Temple Sholom congregation and the Greenwich community so much of his wisdom and guidance over these past 28 years; and
WHEREAS, Rabbi Mitch has been blessed with his wife of more than 35 years, Roseanne, and their four children and has continued to give back both as a spiritual leader and as an outspoken advocate for cancer research.
NOW, THEREFORE, l, Fred Camillo, FIRST SELECTMAN OF THE TOWN OF GREENWICH, do
hereby proclaim October 15, 2023 as
Rabbi Mitchell Hurvitz Day
in the Town of Greenwich and urge all residents to join me in celebrating and recognizing Rabbi Mitch’s contributions to our town.
