PROCLAMATION from Fred Camillo, First Selectman
WHEREAS, The Italian League, St. Lawrence Martyr, Incorporated – was founded on October 1, 1923; and
WHEREAS, The founding 127 members of the Society were legal immigrants to the United States of America from Calabria, Italy; and
WHEREAS, In the Founders’ original articles of incorporation, the veneration of the Patron of the Society, St. Lawrence, Deacon of Rome, has been an annual celebration on August 10; and
WHEREAS, In the Founders' original articles of incorporation, a stated purpose was to form an association whose purpose was to provide for the mutual benefit and assistance of its members in case of sickness or other distress; and
WHEREAS, The St. Lawrence Society has continued and expanded its original mission to reach out and provide a helping hand to the greater community of Greenwich throughout the past 100 years.
in the Town of Greenwich and urge all citizens to thank the members of the St. Lawrence Society for 100 years of helping the community and celebrate all the St. Lawrence Society has done to make Greenwich a better place.
