PROCLAMATION from Fred Camillo, First Selectman
WHEREAS, Every day 47 kids get diagnosed with cancer in the U.S; and
WHEREAS, 17,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year; and
WHEREAS, Cancer is the number one cause of death by disease in children; and
WHEREAS, There are currently only six drug therapies currently approved by the FDA that have been developed exclusively for use in children; and
WHEREAS, Currently only four percent of the National Cancer Institute's budget is allocated to pediatric cancer research; and
WHEREAS, Greenwich and Connecticut-based pediatric cancer foundation The Golden Lights Foundation has taken a local and national leadership role in raising awareness as well as funding research for pediatric cancer.
NOW, THEREFORE, l, Fred Camillo, FIRST SELECTMAN OF THE TOWN OF GREENWICH, do
hereby proclaim September 2023 as
Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month
in the Town of Greenwich to help raise awareness of pediatric cancers and encourage our residents to recognize the impact of pediatric cancers on families within our community and honor those in our community whose lives are currently impacted and whose lives have been shortened by pediatric cancers.
