PROCLAMATION from Fred Camillo, First Selectman
WHEREAS, Geraldine Christophersen, more commonly known as Gerry, was born on September 26, 1923 in Bronx, NY. She moved to Greenwich when she was 6 years old. Her family settled in Cos Cob and she went to the Cos Cob School and Greenwich High School; and
WHEREAS, Geraldine married "the boy next door", Walter Christophersen on February 23, 1946 and they were blessed to have 3 wonderful daughters; and
WHEREAS, Geraldine enjoyed volunteering at the Rummage Round Thrift Store for the Stanwich Congregational Church. After a few years of devoting her time there, Gerry was offered a paid position as co-coordinator and stayed on board for more than 30 years; and
WHEREAS, Geraldine was a very active member and participant of all Senior Center activities for many years. Further, she gave much of her time toward singing with the Silvertones, volunteering at the schools and working at the voting polls; and
WHEREAS, Geraldine was an avid pool player and won many competition trophies; and
WHEREAS, Geraldine has always been passionate about dancing and never passes up the opportunity to "move to the music!"
NOW, THEREFORE, l, Fred Camillo, FIRST SELECTMAN OF THE TOWN OF GREENWICH, do
hereby proclaim September 26, 2023 as
Geraldine Christophersen Day
in the Town of Greenwich and urge all citizens to join me in wishing Geraldine a very happy 100th birthday. Congratulations and best wishes!
