PROCLAMATION from Fred Camillo, First Selectman
WHEREAS, The mission of the American Red Cross is to prevent and alleviate human suffering in the face of emergencies through mobilizing volunteers and the generosity of the American public; and
WHEREAS, The Greenwich Chapter of the American Red Cross was chartered on November 12, 1914, and is now part of the American Red Cross Metro New York North Chapter, which serves the residents of Greenwich, those living in Westchester and Rockland Counties and the US Military Academy at West Point; and
WHEREAS, During its history of service, American Red Cross staff and volunteers have supported the community after countless emergencies and disasters, including 9/11, Superstorm Sandy, the COVID-19 pandemic and Hurricane Ida to name a few; and
WHEREAS, The community of Greenwich and people across the Metro NY North chapter area have come together to support the modernization of the American Red Cross chapter headquarters at 99 Indian Field Road in Greenwich; and
WHEREAS, The headquarters is now home to the new Jill and John Coyle Blood Donor Center,, which modernizes Blood Services operations available throughout the chapter, and the additional floors support the service lines of the Red Cross’ mission of disaster response, service to the Armed Forces, lifesaving skills training and international services; and
WHEREAS, The community has gathered to celebrate the Completion of Metro NY North Headquarter Renovation Campaign in Greenwich on September 6.
NOW, THEREFORE, l, Fred Camillo, FIRST SELECTMAN OF THE TOWN OF GREENWICH, do
hereby proclaim September 6, 2023 as
American Red Cross Metro NY North Day
in the Town of Greenwich and encourage all residents to support this organization and its noble humanitarian mission.
