PROCLAMATION from Fred Camillo, First Selectman
WHEREAS, The Greenwich Youth Conservation Program, which was formerly known as the Youth Conservation Project, was established in 1978; and
WHEREAS, The Greenwich Youth Conservation Program’s mission is to offer Greenwich teens a first-job opportunity to learn teamwork and practical skills while enhancing the Town’s environment and making a valuable contribution to their community; and
WHEREAS, The Greenwich Youth Conservation Program is a unique public/private program that incorporates education, skill building and personal growth through challenging two-week work sessions spent maintaining Town parks and nature preserves while learning valuable skills from guest speakers on topics critical to teens and gaining social and teamwork skills through activities with a diverse group of peers; and
WHEREAS, This proven program is overseen by the Greenwich Department of Human Services and Parks and Recreation who develop work sites and supervise activities; and
WHEREAS, The Greenwich Youth Conservation Program has provided this exceptional opportunity to more than 3,600 teens since its founding; and
WHEREAS, The Greenwich Youth Conservation Program is celebrating 45 years of service to the Greenwich community.
NOW, THEREFORE, l, Fred Camillo, FIRST SELECTMAN OF THE TOWN OF GREENWICH, do
hereby proclaim July 11, 2023 as
Greenwich Youth Conservation Program Day
in the Town of Greenwich and encourage our residents to recognize the impact this program has had helping our Town youth and improving and maintaining our Town parks and preserves.
