PROCLAMATION from Fred Camillo, First Selectman
WHEREAS, The Greenwich Alliance for Education was founded in 2006 as a partner with the Greenwich Public Schools to drive innovation, opportunity and access in learning to empower all students to achieve academic, personal and professional success; and
WHEREAS, AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is an internationally recognized college-readiness system designed to close the achievement gap and promote equity and access in education. AVID was brought to the Greenwich Public Schools (GPS) by the Alliance in 2008 and since then several hundred students have graduated from the GPS AVID program; and
WHEREAS, A total of AVID 337 students have graduated between 2013 and 2023 with the skills to think critically, collaborate, and set high expectations to conquer the challenges that await them with confidence; and
WHEREAS, All the Greenwich Public School educators who participate in AVID are among the most exemplary and dedicated teachers who go above and beyond for their students; and
WHEREAS, Families, teachers, AVID SUCCESS mentors, friends, AVID underclassmen, AVID college students and AVID college graduates are here tonight to celebrate a decade of college dreams; and
WHEREAS, Greenwich Alliance for Education expands educational opportunities, funds innovative programs, inspires educators, and provides the best preparation possible for success after graduation to many Town of Greenwich public school students.
NOW, THEREFORE, l, Fred Camillo, FIRST SELECTMAN OF THE TOWN OF GREENWICH, do
hereby proclaim Saturday, June 10, 2023 as
Greenwich Alliance for Education AVID Day
in the Town of Greenwich and urge all residents to join me in recognizing the importance of Greenwich Alliance for Education and its partnership with the Greenwich Public Schools.
