PROCLAMATION from Fred Camillo, First Selectman
WHEREAS, The Greenwich Arts Council (GAC) was incorporated in 1973 to be an umbrella organization to coordinate and develop the arts in Greenwich; and
WHEREAS, The GAC promotes the arts by nurturing artists and building audiences by bringing the arts to the community and the community to the arts; and
WHEREAS, The GAC in 1980 assumed the management of the two floors above the Senior Center at 299 Greenwich Avenue and was charged to grow its membership and present exciting art exhibits; and
WHEREAS, Art studios, music rooms, dance studios and meeting rooms for community and theater groups were formed to support tenants such as the Greenwich Arts Society, Greenwich Symphony, Greenwich Choral Society and the Alliance Francaise; and
WHEREAS, The GAC has sponsored much loved community events such as Arts in the Park, Arts to the Avenue, Sand Sculpture and Kite Flying at Todd’s Point; and
WHEREAS, We celebrate 50 years of the GAC making meaningful contributions to the Town and enriching the lives of its residents.
NOW, THEREFORE, l, Fred Camillo, FIRST SELECTMAN OF THE TOWN OF GREENWICH, do
hereby proclaim May 13, 2023 as
Greenwich Arts Council Day
in the Town of Greenwich and urge all citizens to join me in recognizing and celebrating the dedicated work of the Greenwich Arts Council.
