PROCLAMATION from Fred Camillo, First Selectman
WHEREAS, May is Mental Health Awareness Month; and Pathways Inc. invites the Greenwich community to join it in promoting inclusivity, and to help it eliminate the stigma attached to individuals living with mental illness; and
WHEREAS, Pathways has provided housing, support services and a safe space for adults with chronic and severe mental illness for more than 42 years and continues to serve this vulnerable, resilient group of individuals; and
WHEREAS, Pathways was founded by Rene Bigler to address the needs of those suffering with serious mental illness, and is home to more than 38 clients while providing outreach and community support services to those in our Greenwich community; and
WHEREAS, On Sunday, May 21, 2023, Pathways is hosting a Walk to Stop the Stigma in collaboration with Brunswick School student leaders, Grant Schmidt and George Fugelsang. All are welcome to join their walk to support and advance Pathways’ pursuit to embrace individuals with chronic mental illness in our community; and
WHEREAS, Pathways envisions a community where individuals suffering with serious mental illness can find a safe and stable haven, receive compassionate care and celebrate their strengths and achievements and Pathways appeals to our fellow community members to Stop the Stigma of mental illness and reduce barriers to community inclusion.
NOW, THEREFORE, l, Fred Camillo, FIRST SELECTMAN OF THE TOWN OF GREENWICH, do
hereby proclaim May 21, 2023 as
Pathways Stop the Stigma Day
in the Town of Greenwich to raise awareness of mental health concerns and encourage law enforcement, first responders, prevention services, healthcare and treatment providers, human services agencies, clergy, community partners, and concerned residents to unite to Stop the Stigma of mental illness.
