PROCLAMATION from Fred Camillo, First Selectman
WHEREAS, In 1923 a group of real estate developers purchased 300 acres of land in Greenwich, CT to establish a planned community centered around a country club to promote the ideals of community, friendship, family and an active lifestyle; and
WHEREAS, Shortly after acquiring the land, the Milbrook Holding Corporation was incorporated and began construction and development work on The Milbrook Club, the lakes and the surrounding neighborhood to become the first planned neighborhood in America; and
WHEREAS, The Milbrook Club has, for 100 years, been a warm and inviting family-centric country club, whose membership displays significant pride in belonging thereto; and
WHEREAS, Members of The Milbrook Club have contributed to the betterment of Greenwich through the arts, politics, business and finance, medicine, law, engineering, and education, as well as charitable endeavors and volunteer work; and
WHEREAS, The Milbrook Club facilities, which regularly host major competitions, are among the finest in Fairfield County with a recently renovated golf course, a new platform tennis complex, six tennis courts, an 8 lane, 25-meter swimming pool and a one-of-a-kind shuffle board emblazoned with the Club’s logo; and
WHEREAS, The Milbrook Club has established a Centennial Committee to plan celebrations for its 100th year.
NOW, THEREFORE, l, FRED CAMILLO, FIRST SELECTMAN OF THE TOWN OF GREENWICH, do
hereby proclaim March 4, 2023 as
The Milbrook Club Day
in the Town of Greenwich and urge all residents to join me in celebrating and in recognizing the Club’s contributions to our Town.
