PROCLAMATION from Fred Camillo, First Selectman
WHEREAS, Judith Margaret Ann Blakey Caravella will be honored by friends and relatives on the occasion of her 90th birthday on January 29th, 2023; and
WHEREAS, Judy Caravella was born in Southhampton, England on January 29th, 1933 and has been a resident of this community since 1950; and
WHEREAS, Judy Caravella became the wife of Lou Caravella in 1953 and this marriage was blessed with four children, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, and as a wedding gift to Judy, Lou purchased Post Stationery, where they spent the next 35 years raising their family and supporting their community; and
WHEREAS, In addition to being a wife and mother, she has been an active member of Christ Church, a Senior Girl Scout Leader, an avid quilter, knitter, reupholsterer, gardener, and teacher; a host family for Fresh Air kids and Rotary Exchange Students, and an active member of the Cos Cob Firehouse Ladies Auxiliary; and
WHEREAS, During a long and productive lifetime, she became a world traveler, visiting nine countries over three months to reconnect with former exchange students, driving cross-country with seven kids and a camper in tow, and bicycling round trip from Cos Cob to Cape Cod and crewing a 72ft sloop from Groton to Block Island, Nantucket, and back with her Senior Girl Scouts; and
WHEREAS, Judy Caravella has served her community by opening her heart and home to many extended family members, friends, and acquaintances, six Fresh Air kids, over 20 Exchange Students, many of whom became family to her, any and every animal in need of a home, and every straggler her children brought in.
NOW, THEREFORE, l, FRED CAMILLO, FIRST SELECTMAN OF THE TOWN OF GREENWICH, do
hereby proclaim January 29, 2023 as
Judy Caravella Day
in the Town of Greenwich and urge all citizens to join me in wishing Judy a very happy 90th birthday! Congratulations and best wishes!
