veterans day greenwich avenue memorial.JPEG

Greeting friends and neighbors

“Veterans know better than anyone else the price of freedom, for they have suffered the scars of war. We can offer them no better tribute than to protect what they have won for us.” -President Ronald Reagan

Help us spread holiday cheer to our veterans!
The American Red Cross Metro New York North Chapter invites you to participate in a holiday season Veterans Clothing Drive. To donate new clothing and other personal items, select from the wish list and bring them to the American Red Cross Chapter at 99 Indian Field Road, Greenwich. Please take a look at the flyer for the list of items and other drop-off locations. The deadline is December 9th. More information is available at www.redcross.org

State Senate race recount is complete in Greenwich,
Stamford and New Canaan to follow

Greenwich's Registrars of Voters are pleased to have been able to perform a full recount of the State Senate race for the 36th District.

Before, during, and after an election, we receive many questions about the accuracy of voting equipment.  We receive reports every year from people who are insistent that the tabulator did not increment up when they put in their ballot.  The recount definitively proves the continued accuracy of the equipment used.

Recording the intent of 25,000 individuals will always have small errors.  Not because of the equipment, but because voters fail to follow the instructions to, for example, completely fill in the oval.  If every voter read and followed directions there would not be 75 rejected absentee ballots, nor would there be a need to hand-count a number of ballots at polling places.

Even with those human errors, we are glad to report that in recounting the votes, there was a change of ten votes out of over 25,000 cast.  That is a change of three hundredths of one percent, or .03%

If you know a poll worker, please thank them and be confident that the votes of citizens in Greenwich are recorded accurately, time and again.

Coastal Resiliency Assessment

Greenwich Coastal Resiliency Assessment & Adaptation Strategies
The Greenwich Coastal Resiliency Assessment analyzes the impacts of Sea Level Rise (SLR) on the Town of Greenwich with a specific focus on municipally owned and managed facilities, and four tidally impacted ponds and their surrounding recreational facilities (Mill Pond Park, Bruce Park, Binney Park, and Greenwich Point Park).

The analysis includes a description of the land types and shoreline characteristics that will shift during increased sea levels, with urban land use the most heavily impacted land use type across nearly all scenarios. An analysis of the vulnerability of roadways was also conducted. Read more from the Greenwich Conservation Commission

Reminder to keep leaves out of storm drains

The remnants of tropical depression Nicole is arriving with predicted strong wind gusts and rain over the weekend. The Public Works department asks residents to be thoughtful about where they are piling their leaves. DPW crews are working ahead of the storm to clear leaves from trouble spots, but this is made extra hard in the fall and with residents and landscapers making piles that block storm drains. DPW road crews service over 10,000 parcels in Town but can’t get to all of them before the weekend. and we appreciate your help and cooperation in this effort.
