PROCLAMATION from Fred Camillo, First Selectman
WHEREAS, Greenwich Resident, Barbara Heins is a well-respected and accomplished journalist with more than 35 years of experience. She is a two-time Pulitzer Prize-nominated journalist and recipient of numerous Society of Professional Journalists awards; and
WHEREAS, Barbara’s journalism career began in high school, working on the student newspaper, eventually becoming editor-in-chief. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from St. Bonaventure University’s Journalism School. She also received an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts from Hudson Valley Community College and is a Certified Connecticut Municipal Official; and
WHEREAS, Her extensive journalism background includes, founding editor of Greenwich Patch; assignments editor at The Advocate of Stamford, and senior arts writer at Greenwich Time. She has covered everything from crime, courts and local government, to health and science, food, the antiques scene and the arts; and
WHEREAS, On March 28, 2016, Barbara was appointed Executive Assistant by First Selectman Peter Tesei bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position. Barbara will be retiring on November 4, 2022, after completing more than six and a half years of serving the Town of Greenwich as the Executive Assistant to the First Selectman; and
WHEREAS, In her retirement, she will be pursuing her lifelong passions of gardening, cooking, visiting antique car shows and spending more time with her partner Bob and vacationing at her beloved Cape Cod. She is also looking forward to taking her original 1979 river blue metallic VW convertible out of storage and putting a few miles on it.
NOW, THEREFORE, l, FRED CAMILLO, FIRST SELECTMAN OF THE TOWN OF GREENWICH, do
hereby proclaim November 3, 2022 as
Barbara Heins Day
in the Town of Greenwich and urge all residents who have benefited from Barbara's dedicated service to join me in congratulating her on a stellar career and wish her the best of health and happiness in the next chapter of her life.
