PROCLAMATION from Fred Camillo, First Selectman
WHEREAS, Daniel Stephen Warzoha grew up in the Glenville section of Greenwich where he was a longtime resident. He served as district chief of the Glenville Volunteer Fire Company, of which he was a lifelong member, after joining at the age of 16; and
WHEREAS, Dan began working for the Town of Greenwich in 1973 in the Department of Public Works, eventually becoming the operations manager at the Town sewage plant. In 1999, he was appointed Chief of the Greenwich Fire Department, serving until 2005. Beginning in July 2005, he served as the Director of Emergency Management, working as a contractor for the Town; and
WHEREAS, As one of its five original founders, Dan was involved in the creation of the Greenwich Emergency Medical Service (GEMS) in the 1980s, when a number of volunteer ambulance companies were consolidated into a nonprofit organization. He served on the GEMS board for many years; and
WHEREAS, After the 911 terror attacks, Dan worked with other municipal chiefs to develop a statewide urban search and rescue team. Dan was known for his commanding presence before, during and after emergency incidents, including blizzards, hurricanes, big storms and more; and
WHEREAS, His community service included, Vice President of the King Street Homeowners Association; member of the Kiwanis International Greenwich Chapter and the Parent Teacher Association; volunteer with Boy Scouts of America Troop 35 as a committee member and Advancement Chairman. He loved cooking pregame meals for the Greenwich High School football team when his son, Dan, was a player, and also was active with GHS Rugby and the Polish Club; and
WHEREAS, Dan Warzoha passed away unexpectedly in August 2021 at the age of 68. He was an ardent Yankee fan who despite of how busy he was with his work always found time for family. We join his mother Claire, Diane his wife of 42 years, his two sons Stephen and Daniel, daughter-in-law Kathryn and his grandchildren, Gavin and Layla, and many more loving relatives and friends in honoring Dan’s memory by awarding him this year’s David N. Theis Award.
NOW, THEREFORE, l, FRED CAMILLO, FIRST SELECTMAN OF THE TOWN OF GREENWICH, do
hereby proclaim October 28, 2022 as
Dan Warzoha Day
in the Town of Greenwich and urge all residents to join me in remembering Dan’s contributions to our Town and celebrating this day in his honor.
