PROCLAMATION from Fred Camillo, First Selectman
WHEREAS, The Greenwich Alliance for Education was founded in 2006 as a partner with the Greenwich Public Schools, to drive innovation, opportunity and access in learning to empower all students to achieve academic, personal and professional success.
WHEREAS, AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), AVID is an internationally recognized college-readiness system designed to close the achievement gap
and promote equity and access in education. AVID was brought to the Greenwich Public Schools (GPS) by the Alliance in 2008. Since then, several hundred students have graduated from the GPS AVID program; and
WHEREAS, During the 2021-2022 school year, thirty-seven AVID seniors, under the tutelage of Frances Bittman and Melissa Brown, completed college essays and submitted applications to numerous colleges; and
WHEREAS, All students in the AVID Class of 2022 were accepted to college and many received significant merit scholarships and grants over four years; and
WHEREAS, Families, teachers, AVID SUCCESS mentors, friends, AVID underclassmen, and AVID college students and AVID college graduates are here tonight to celebrate their graduation and wish them well in their future endeavors; and
WHEREAS, Greenwich Alliance for Education expands educational opportunities, funds innovative programs, inspires educators, and provides the best preparation possible for success after graduation to many Town of Greenwich public school students.
NOW, THEREFORE, l, FRED CAMILLO, FIRST SELECTMAN OF THE TOWN OF GREENWICH, do
hereby proclaim June 22, 2022 as
Greenwich High School Class of 2022 Avid Day
in the Town of Greenwich and urge all citizens to join me in congratulating all members of the AVID Class of 2022 and their dedicated teachers for their remarkable accomplishments and in recognizing the importance of the Greenwich Alliance for Education and its partnership with the Greenwich Public Schools.
