Greetings Greenwich friends and neighbors.

Students learn about Greenwich firefighting

This week marked another return to some pre-COVID normalcy. The third-grade students of the Japanese School visited Town Hall for the first time since 2019.

In addition to learning about our Town’s history and founding families, and how our government works, the students had the first-hand opportunity to learn about fire safety.

Greenwich firefighter Kevin Coyner, joined by members of Engine Co. 1, gave an informative and interactive presentation about the work of firefighters and the equipment they use every day. Having lived in Japan, Kevin speaks Japanese fluently and gave the presentation in the students’ native language. Each student had the opportunity to try on turn-out gear and tour Engine 1 before the crew had to respond to an emergency call.

A special thanks to Kevin and firefighters Adam Corwin, Dennis Hefferan, Kyle Matthews and Michael Ullrich for their time.

COVID Update

Today Greenwich Hospital reported it was treating 10 COVID-19 patients, with one patient in the Intensive Care Unit. Last week there were 15 patients being treated for COVID. The Yale-New Haven Health system has a total of 86 patients.

Our public schools reported today 34 new active cases in the district. This week, a total of 62 new cases were reported in our schools. A total of 3,392 cases have been reported so far this school year.

According to the state, as of June 9, the total number of Greenwich COVID cases (since the pandemic began in March 2020) is 14,149. The number of residents whose deaths have been attributed to COVID remains at 123.
