“An Uncommon Planet” art exhibit

An Uncommon Planet features the work of two photographers, Jonathan Pozniak and Eric Seplowitz. Both photographers are interested in the natural world and depict its unique features from different perspectives. Jonathan captures the majestic beauty of expansive icebergs and aerial landscapes, while Eric explores small minerals and rocks formed over millions of years and reveals details that are invisible to the naked eye. Despite these differences in scale and perspective, the photographs transform into abstract patterns of shapes and colors that share much in common. Planned in conjunction with Earth Day, these photographs encourage us to take a closer look and appreciate the astounding beauty of our fragile and ever-changing planet.

Children, ages 2.5-5, and their caregivers are encouraged to explore the museum’s collections and exhibitions through picture books and hands-on activities. Topics will rotate between art and science. Our Sandy Beaches – In this BB kids will learn about the beach, sand, and minerals. They will then be able to make their own beaded creation with beads made of sand. Bruce Beginnings is a free program with free general admission Tuesdays. Space is limited. “Ecotypes, Ecoregions + Ecological Restoration: Fortifying the Living Seed” 1:00-4:00pm

Join Sefra Alexadra, The Seed Huntress to learn about efforts to restore locally sourced native plants by The Ecotype Project. Dan Brubaker, GLT’s Conservation Outreach manager who will enlighten you about GLT’s Seed-to-Seed program. Learn about the regional effort to promote ecotypic native seeds, tour GLT’s greenhouse, grounds, and participate in a workshop transplanting native wildflower seedlings grown from seeds that were collected from GLT properties. Participants will be able to take home seedlings from a variety of native wildflowers. Pre-registration is required, Space is limited.

Sleepy Cat Farm is the vision of one man, Fred Landman, who acquired the handsome Georgian Revival house and grounds in 1994. Deeply committed to the concept of harmony between house and garden, he has dedicated himself to the landscape to create “a garden of which the house could be proud.” Join us for a lecture and book signing at the GBC, as Mr. Landman takes us on a visual tour of this lavish estate that features an abundance of garden experiences: formal boxwood and undulating hornbeam hedges, dense woodland, reflecting pools, arbors and follies—and a ferme ornée (ornamental farm) offering organic produce to the community. Bluebirds are one of the most loved and recognized of all birds, and their cheerful song is welcomed by most birders. One way to help increase the bluebird population is by building houses for them. Join us at the Mueller Preserve to assemble and decorate bluebird boxes in time for their spring nesting season. Participants will be able to take their decorated bird box home while also joining the staff as they investigate the boxes on the Mueller Preserve.

A short-term exhibit housed at the bus stop shelter will provide information on the PP efforts, explain the need for pollinator protection and restoration of their habitats. Cos Cob Train Station
This event will be held at the Cos Cob train station parking lot. From the newest electric cars through e-bikes and e-scooters to the all-electric landscape equipment, this expo will have them all. Dealers standing by will be available to answer all the questions and test-drives will be available. An enclose area for children’s bike and scooters will keep all family members engaged. Food trucks will provide an opportunity to have a picnic along the water front with family and friends. This event is organized by Conservation Commission, Sustainability Committee, EV Club of CT, Quiet Yards Greenwich and Pedal Greenwich.
