PROCLAMATION from Fred Camillo, First Selectman
WHEREAS, May is our national bicycling month. On May 1 our country celebrates Ride-a-Bike Day and on May 4 Bike & Roll-to-School Day; and
WHEREAS, A Global Cycle Day is celebrated to recognize the significance of cycling as a mode of transportation around the world for over two centuries; and
WHEREAS, Bicycling is widely recognized for its health benefits, versatility, reliability and affordability. Cycling as well as walking, roller skating, skateboarding, foot-scootering and other forms of non-gasoline motorized mobility are widely recognized as eco-friendly and economical alternatives to local automobile travel and provide traffic congestion and vehicle parking relief; and
WHEREAS, The Town of Greenwich and the First Selectman’s Bicycle Task Force Committee, supported by Pedal Greenwich and a growing number of resident advocates, wish to raise public awareness for safe and fun cycling activities: to go to work, school and other significant destinations and points of interest in our beautiful Town.
NOW, THEREFORE, l, Fred Camillo, FIRST SELECTMAN OF THE TOWN OF GREENWICH, do
hereby proclaim May 1-7, 2022 as
