PROCLAMATION from Fred Camillo, First Selectman
WHEREAS, May is our national bicycling month. On May 1 our country celebrates Ride-a-Bike Day and on May 4 Bike & Roll-to-School Day; and
WHEREAS, A Global Cycle Day is celebrated to recognize the significance of cycling as a mode of transportation around the world for over two centuries; and
WHEREAS, Bicycling is widely recognized for its health benefits, versatility, reliability and affordability. Cycling as well as walking, roller skating, skateboarding, foot-scootering and other forms of non-gasoline motorized mobility are widely recognized as eco-friendly and economical alternatives to local automobile travel and provide traffic congestion and vehicle parking relief; and
WHEREAS, The Town of Greenwich and the First Selectman’s Bicycle Task Force Committee, supported by Pedal Greenwich and a growing number of resident advocates, wish to raise public awareness for safe and fun cycling activities: to go to work, school and other significant destinations and points of interest in our beautiful Town.
NOW, THEREFORE, l, Fred Camillo, FIRST SELECTMAN OF THE TOWN OF GREENWICH, do
hereby proclaim May 1-7, 2022 as
Greenwich Ride-A-Bike-Week
in the Town of Greenwich and we encourage all Town residents and visitors to explore whether bicycling can be the alternative and active traffic and transportation option for them on one of these days or for most of that week.
