Additional COVID test kit distribution for Greenwich residents announced

GREENWICH, CT – Greenwich First Selectman Fred Camillo has announced plans for a second distribution of COVID-19 home test kits for residents.

The Town has received an additional allocation from the State of Connecticut.  The kits will be distributed while supplies last and free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis to Greenwich residents from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at Grass Island Park.  A portion of the test kits are being directed toward special service providers in Town, as well as to Greenwich schools, housing facilities, health care facilities and essential Town workers.

“We are pleased to be able continue to distribute COVID test kits to the public. As I noted earlier this week, we need to emphasize that the use of these limited quantity test kits should be by residents experiencing symptoms, people who are highly susceptible to the disease and our senior population,” Mr. Camillo said.

On Saturday, staff will distribute four (4) tests (packaged in two (2) boxes) to each vehicle, regardless of the number of occupants in each vehicle. This will be strictly enforced in order to achieve the widest and fairest distribution of the test kits.

Residents must show proof of their Greenwich residency, such as a valid Connecticut driver’s license or a 2021 Greenwich Park Pass. All drivers and passengers must remain in their vehicles and must wear face masks when receiving their test kits. Each vehicle may pass through the distribution site once.

Vehicles will not be allowed to park, stand or queue on Shore Road or Horseneck Lane at any time. Drivers should not arrive in the area prior to the start time as the park will be closed until the distribution site opens.

Due to safety concerns, this test kit distribution site will be unable to accommodate pedestrians or walk ups.

Greenwich residents without access to a vehicle, or unable to drive, should contact the Greenwich Department of Human Services at (203) 622-3800. Greenwich seniors may contact the Commission on Aging at (203) 862-6710, if they are unable to drive to the distribution site.
