The Holiday Food Drive Was a Tremendous Success!

Holiday Food Drive The Greenwich Department of Parks & Recreation, in coordination with the non-profit organization Neighbor to Neighbor teamed up for a food drive this holiday season. Collection bins were placed at various Parks and Recreation facilities from December 1 thru December 20. We also included an online fresh fruit & vegetable drive.

According to Neighbor to Neighbor, “hunger and food insecurity affect many more people in Greenwich than most of us realize: 20%+ of residents lack the income needed to cover basic necessities and 28% of Greenwich Public School students qualify for free or subsidized lunches.

Today, the two organizations celebrated the tremendous success of the food drive! Collection bins were packed full of so many great non-perishable items, from pasta to peanut butter. In addition, our online fresh fruit & vegetable drive exceeded our $500 goal, raising $870 dollars! We’re excited to help put a dent in food insecurity in our community this holiday season.

If you missed our Department’s holiday food drive, but still want to help, please visit Neighbor to Neighbor’s website at There are plenty of opportunities to donate food, funds, and other essential items.

On behalf of Parks & Recreation and Neighbor to Neighbor, we want to thank everyone who participated. We wish everyone a happy and healthy holiday! All the Best in the New Year!
