First Selectman Camillo announces update to face mask requirement

With the number of residents contracting COVID-19 continuing to rise on a daily basis, First Selectman Fred Camillo announced that visitors to and employees at all Town facilities, including Town Hall, will be required to wear face masks.

The requirement – regardless of vaccination status   is effective 8 a.m. Thursday, December 23, 2021. Visitors and employees also will need to honor social distancing requirements of six feet.

“With the increasing number of cases in Town, it is out of an abundance of caution, in the interest of public health and safety, that we are imposing this temporary requirement,” said Mr. Camillo.

On Tuesday, December 21, Greenwich Public Schools reported 96 new cases with 171 active cases throughout the district. Greenwich Hospital reported there were 17 patients being treated for COVID-19 on Tuesday. The Greenwich Health Department reported on Tuesday, December 21 there have been 507 new cases reported among Town residents since Tuesday, December 14. On Monday, December 20, there were 263 new cases and 105 additional cases reported on Tuesday, December 21.

With the social distancing requirements, Town meetings will revert to the virtual settings via Zoom for all meetings, until further notice.

“To take the lead, I have decided that the December 23 Board of Selectmen meeting will now be held via Zoom only,” Mr. Camillo said. “In addition to the masks being required in our Town public buildings, I strongly encourage that in order to be safe in confined settings in private buildings, that people wear masks. If you’re outdoors and not in a confined setting, I recommend you to use your best judgment,” Mr. Camillo added.

“I thank our residents who have been vigilant about wearing masks and getting the vaccines, especially as we approach the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. If you are vaccinated and have received a booster, I encourage residents to support our local businesses and patronize them by doing their holiday shopping here in Town.”
