[ARCHIVED] Community Connections from Fred: Storm Weather Alert

A map of the expected storm track which will arrive in Connecticut tonight and continue into Tuesday.

Greetings Greenwich friends and neighbors.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a powerful Autumn storm to arrive in the Greenwich area beginning tonight, strengthening through Tuesday and departing Wednesday morning.

A flood watch is effect for all of Connecticut and high winds are expected as well. Rain will likely begin tonight and become heavy during the day tomorrow. Rainfall could be up to 1 inch per hour at times. Wind gusts may reach up to 50 mph on Tuesday afternoon.

The heavy rain, wind and storm drains clogged with leaves may result in local flooding. I ask that if there is a storm drain near your property, to please be a good neighbor and clean any leaves from the drain grates.

Coastal flooding may occur at high tides; specifically, at 3:41 p.m. on Tuesday and at 4:18 a.m. on Wednesday. The high winds and rain may result in downed trees and power outages. Travel on local roads may become hazardous.

Residents and businesses are urged to prepare now for impacts from this storm, including arrangements for being without power, ensuring all outdoor items are properly anchored, and ensuring drainage systems are clear and functioning.

Please continue to monitor the Town's website and social media for updates, as well as local news and weather forecasts. This type of fast-moving storm is difficult to predict and changes to its track may strengthen or lessen its final impact to our community.

Emergency teams from Town departments are prepared for the storm and stand ready to respond as needed.

Please be careful and continue to watch out for one another. All the best,

Fred
