PROCLAMATION from Fred Camillo, First Selectman
WHEREAS, The professional nurse holds an irreplaceable place in our health care system whether in a hospital setting, our schools or the community; and
WHEREAS, Nurses provide critical, and many times, life-saving care to their patients, through primary health care services, health care education, advice or counseling; and
WHEREAS, The global COVID-19 pandemic continues to create unique challenges to the health care industry, and nurses on the front lines whether at Greenwich Hospital, in our schools or in our community have been the stewards of providing first-class care with compassion; and
WHEREAS, Today, May 12, is the 201st anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, the ‘Lady with a Lamp,’ who is considered the founder of modern nursing; and
WHEREAS, Our entire Greenwich community is grateful for the nurses’ care of and their commitment to all people with dignity and respect, especially those nurses affiliated with the Greenwich Health Department, Greenwich Hospital, the Greenwich Board of Education and The Nathaniel Witherell nursing home.
NOW, THEREFORE, l, Fred Camillo, FIRST SELECTMAN OF THE TOWN OF GREENWICH, do
hereby proclaim May 12, 2021 as
Greenwich Nurses Day
in the Town of Greenwich and encourage all our citizens to join me in applauding and thanking all of the nurses who serve the Greenwich community for giving of themselves, especially during this pandemic.
