PROCLAMATION from Fred Camillo, First Selectman
WHEREAS, The Town of Greenwich, Connecticut proudly supports YWCA Greenwich in recognition of Stand Against Racism; and
WHEREAS, Stand Against Racism is a signature campaign of YWCA USA to raise awareness about the impact of institutional and structural racism and to build community among those who work for racial justice. This campaign is one part of a larger national strategy to fulfill their mission of eliminating racism and empowering women and girls; and
WHEREAS, We recognize structural racism plays a large role in determining the conditions in which people are born, grow, work, live, and age. These factors affect people’s access to quality housing, education, food, transportation, political power, and other social determinants of health. We know that understanding and addressing the public health consequences that stem from racism is crucial to eliminating racial and ethnic inequities, and to improving opportunity and well-being across communities; and
WHEREAS, Over 100 businesses, non-profits, schools, faith communities, and the Town of Greenwich commit to Stand Against Racism every day; and
WHEREAS, We salute YWCA Greenwich in its necessary mission to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.
NOW, THEREFORE, l, Fred Camillo, FIRST SELECTMAN OF THE TOWN OF GREENWICH, do
hereby proclaim April 23, 2021 as
Stand Against Racism Day
in the Town of Greenwich and urge all members of our community to join me in standing against racism to create a better, brighter and more hopeful future.
