RTM Meeting, April 19, 2021
Topic: Items 10 and 11
Name: James Waters
Good evening. My name is James Waters and I am a parent of two students at North Mianus School.
The North Mianus School community spoke clearly last week: 333 people, representing 80% of the school’s families, signed a letter urging town government to act urgently to repair and reopen the North Mianus School building.
As the Superintendent has clearly stated, there is a timing crunch and we cannot afford to lose even a single week if we want to get the building repaired and reopened sometime this fall. The Board of Education has unanimously agreed with the scope of the repair project and reiterated that time is of the essence.
I wish the BET had listened to this overwhelming support and clear rationale for the full interim appropriation request from the Board of Education. Yet since they didn’t and some delays are now likely, the RTM is left with a decision to either do your best to minimize delays or to exacerbate them. I hope you will do the former and not the latter.
Please help us minimize any delays and get North Mianus School reopened as quickly as possible. I understand that the moderator of the RTM has offered to hold a special RTM meeting as needed in order to move this process along. I’d like to thank him for this and hope all of you will support the North Mianus community in ensuring that we get this done as quickly as we can.
