PROCLAMATION from Fred Camillo, First Selectman
WHEREAS, The Greenwich Department of Health and the Town’s many public health system partners have collaborated heroically to thwart the pandemic spread of COVID-19 that has infected more than 4,600 people in Greenwich; and
WHEREAS, Connecticut is now 4th in the nation in “Red Alert” status, which is defined as having “uncontrolled community spread” that is now compounded by the highly contagious COVID strains; and
WHEREAS, The Greenwich Department of Health has the distinction of having been designated for many years by the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health as the lead agency for public health emergency planning for Greenwich and our region; and
WHEREAS, The Greenwich Department of Health created a comprehensive Greenwich Pandemic Plan for the community and nursing homes, as well as a Mass Immunization Plan, going back to the early 2000s; and
WHEREAS, Our nation grieves the loss of more than 500,000 lives due to COVID-19; Connecticut having lost nearly 8,000 lives and Greenwich having lost nearly 90 lives; and
WHEREAS, The Greenwich Department of Health, has been conducting the case and contact tracing and monitoring of people exposed to or afflicted with COVID-19 since the pandemic began; and
WHEREAS, The Public Health System in Greenwich has mobilized and maintained a robust public health response borne of a partnership of public, private and municipal agencies that have been testing, treating and vaccinating the people of Greenwich and beyond in an effort to save lives and obtain herd immunity.
NOW, THEREFORE, l, Fred Camillo, FIRST SELECTMAN OF THE TOWN OF GREENWICH, do
hereby proclaim April 5-11, 2021 as
National Public Health Week
in the Town of Greenwich to recognize the essential services provided by the many faces of public health including the Greenwich Department of Health and the Greenwich Medical Reserve Corps; the Greenwich Hospital Association, Greenwich Emergency Medical Services, Family Centers, Inc., CVS and Walgreen’s who have been vaccinating Greenwich residents against a deadly virus.
