  1. Environmental Lecture Series - What's So Bad About Pesticides?

    October 16, 2019, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM @ Greenwich Botanical Center

Everyone would agree that is would not be a good idea to put pesticides in a saltshaker and add them to our food at the table. But there is little agreement when it comes to their use in agriculture. How much gets into our food? What are the effects on our health? On the environment? Is there a safer alternative? The answers to those and other questions will be provided at the lecture. Guest speaker is Dr. German Cutz, UConn Associate Extension Educator. Sponsored by the Greenwich Botanical Center

    More Details
  2. Environmental Lecture Series - New York’s Newest Immigrants: Coyotes in the Metro Area

    October 23, 2019, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM @ Greenwich Land Trust

Coyotes have a long history of living in and around populated areas. They have adapted to survive and sometimes even thrive in urban environments, but living in close proximity with people can be a cause of concern. Come learn how coyotes modify their behavior to live in suburban environments, and how they interact with and impact the habitat around them. Guest speaker is Chris Nagy, Ph.D., director of research and education at the Mianus River Gorge and Co-founder or Gotham Coyote. Sponsored by the Greenwich Land Trust

    More Details
  3. Environmental Lecture Series - PFAS: Emerging Contaminants - what you need to know

    October 30, 2019, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM @ Greenwich Audubon

It's unfortunate that it took a tragic spill of nearly 40,000 gallons of firefighting foam into the Farmington River for PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) contamination to finally get some attention in Connecticut. They have been found almost everywhere (food packaging, electronics, fabric, furniture, carpeting, clothing, non-stick cookware, fire-fighting foam and even plants and drinking water). Do we have them in Greenwich? This program will address this and other questions of how to protect your family against these toxic chemicals. Guest speakers are Anne Hulick, CT Director of Clean Water Action and Christopher Perkins, Laboratory Director at the Center of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, Institute of the Environment, UConn. Sponsored by Greenwich Audubon and Conservation Commission
