Community Impact Section
The Community Impact Section was created in 2004 and is based upon Community Policing principles. It enlists involvement from citizens within the community in an effort to form a partnership toward addressing quality of life issues. The town’s citizens and business owners play a major role in the direction and decision making of community-based projects. The Community Impact Section (CIS) facilitates the community with a problem-oriented approach that seeks out the root causes of a problem and then develops ways to solve them.
The CIS falls under the command of the Deputy Chief of Police (Professional Standards Division). It consists of two Community Impact Officers (CIOs) who are directly supervised by one CIO Supervisor (Sergeant).
It is the goal of the Community Impact Section to “bridge the gap” between the citizens of the town of Greenwich and their Police Department so as to better serve the community. We strive to increase communication between the Greenwich Police Department and residents of the town’s diverse neighborhoods. The CIS section will analyze/Investigate on going crime sprees directly effecting neighborhoods in the town (Motor Vehicle Burglaries, Vandalism, Graffiti) and develop long term solutions to the problems.

- Coordinates the Services of Various Governmental and Private Agencies in an Effort to Resolve Identified Problems Within the Community

- Crime Spree’s (Motor Vehicle Burglaries, Vandalism, Graffiti)
- Graffiti Deciphering and Removal
- Greenwich Housing Authority Issues
- Hoarding Issues
- Neighbor Disputes
- Quality of Life Issues
- Security and Threat Analysis
- Security Surveys (Residential and Commercial Properties, Schools, Religious Institutions, Day Care Facilities)
- Women’s Self Defense Class (WSD)
- Youth Citizens Police Academy (YCPA)
In 2005 the CIS formed groups to better serve the community. These groups meet on a monthly basis and work together with the CIO's in identifying and solving community issues in different areas of town. The Greenwich Police Departments Community Impact Section continues to serve the citizens of the town of Greenwich in various ways that have had a positive effect on the community.
