Greenwich-Stamford Multi-Use Trail

Project Background

The Town of Greenwich, in partnership with the City of Stamford, is initiating a project to plan and design a multi-use recreational trail that would connect Binney Park in Old Greenwich and Boccuzzi Park in Stamford.

Project Location

The trail will connect Binney Park in Old Greenwich to the Boccuzzi Park in the City of Stamford. The exact route for the multi-use trail has yet to be determined. The Town of Greenwich will host public meetings during the design phase of the project to help identify the most suitable location for the trail based on community feedback.

Project Funding

The feasibility and design phase of this project is funded through the Connecticut Recreational Trails Program grant, which funds up to 80% of total costs and requires a 20% match from the Town of Greenwich and City of Stamford. The budgeted cost is $338,000 for which the municipalities secured a $270,000 grant from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CTDEEP). Construction is not funded or planned at this time.

Project Benefits

Old Greenwich is a community that promotes active transportation. With a goal of improving pedestrian and bicyclist safety in Old Greenwich, this project would create a multi-use path within the Town's right-of-way to connect as many points of interest as possible, such as parks, schools, downtown business districts, and train stations.
