Greenwich Avenue Sewer Rehabilitation

Important Information

Greenwich Avenue sewer rehabilitation work is currently taking place in Work Zone 3, which is located on Greenwich Avenue from approximately 347 Greenwich Avenue to 321 Greenwich Avenue

Work Zone 4 is anticipated to start the week of July 5th. Work Zone 4 is located on Greenwich Avenue between Elm Street and Arch Street from approximately 244 Greenwich Avenue to 276 Greenwich Avenue.

The work mainly requires digging in the road to expose the sewer main and replacing a small section of the sanitary sewer main. This is preventive infrastructure maintenance to improve the longevity and reliability of critical sewer infrastructure and is best completed ahead of paving, which is anticipated in Greenwich Avenue’s future. At this time there is no foreseen road and sidewalk closure for this project. For the safety of the workers, please stay alert and drive slow. We will do our best to minimize the impact on property owners, patrons, residents, and commuters during this time and we appreciate your cooperation.

This work is to maintain the Town’s critical sanitary sewer infrastructure and is completely separate from any other future road and/or intersection improvements.

Project Background

As part of the Town’s annual preventative maintenance program, the Department of Public Works Sewer Division inspected all of the Town's sanitary sewer mains along Greenwich Avenue. Sanitary sewer mains transport wastewater (water from sinks, toilets, showers, washing machines, etc.) to the Grass Island Wastewater Treatment Plant for treatment.  As a result of our inspections, we identified locations that require repair.

The purpose of this work is to provide many continued years of service life to the critical sewer infrastructure that serves the community and limit the potential for digging up the road for sewer repairs after any future paving is performed along Greenwich Avenue. Planned, preventative infrastructure maintenance like this results in a lower project cost and less disruption to the community as a whole and means the likelihood of a system failure is much reduced.

The Contractor performing the work is FGB Construction Company and the Engineering Consultant who is assisting in managing the daily field activities is CDM Smith.
