Connecticut State Codes Enforced

PLEASE BE AWARE STATE BUILDING CODES WILL BE UPDATED OCTOBER 1, 2018.

Building Permit applications filed on or after October 1, 2016 are required to meet the following codes:

  • Residential Buildings (One and Two Family Dwellings): 2012 International Residential Code
    • 2014 Connecticut Amendment
    • 2016 National Electrical Code
  • All Buildings Other Than One and Two Family Dwellings:
    • 2012 International Existing Building Code
    • 2012 International Mechanical Code
    • 2012 International Plumbing Code
    • 2012 International Energy Conservation Code
    • 2014 National Electrical Code
    • ICC/ANSI A117.1 - 2009 Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities
    • 2016 Connecticut Amendment

February 28, 2014

Building Permit applications filed on or after February 28, 2014 but before October 1, 2016 are required to meet the following codes:

  • Residential Buildings (One and Two Family Dwellings): 2009 International Residential Code
    • 2013 Connecticut Amendment
    • 2011 National Electrical Code
  • All Buildings Other Than One and Two Family Dwellings:
    • 2003 International Existing Building Code
    • 2003 International Mechanical Code
    • 2003 International Plumbing Code
    • 2009 International Energy Conservation Code
    • 2011 National Electrical Code
    • ICC/ANSI A117.1 - 2003
    • 2005 CT Supplement (Effective December 31, 2005)
    • 2009 CT Amendment (Effective August 1, 2009)

Connecticut specific version of the 2003 International Building Code, 2012 International Residential Code and 2012 International Building Code are available from the International Code Council. This version has the CT amendments incorporated into one book.
