Citizens Police Academy Fall 2019
The Greenwich Police Departmentis accepting applications for the 2019 Citizen’s Police Academy Fall Session.This fall’s program features a new, condensed schedule! The 8 week program willcommence on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 and meets once a week on Wednesdaysfrom 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the Greenwich Police Department. Graduation will beheld on Wednesday, November 6, 2019. Completed applications and a copy of amotor vehicle operator’s license must be received at the Greenwich PoliceDepartment Community Impact Section no later than Thursday, September 12, 2019.
The Citizen’s Police Academyprovides Greenwich Residents with a first-hand overview of both law enforcementand community-related functions of their Police Department. Topics ofinstruction include:
Introduction to Policing CourtProcedures/After the Arrest 911 Awareness
Use of Force Domestic ViolenceInvestigations Scams/Fraud
Patrol Operations CommunityImpact Section Narcotics Investigations
Motor Vehicle Stops/DUICriminal Investigations/Special Victims Crime Scenes (CSI)
Special Response Unit MarinePatrol
Instructors for the program arehighly-trained and experienced Greenwich Police Officers. In addition toparticipating in role-playing exercises, attendees will accompany on-dutypolice personnel within the Marine Section and Patrol Division. Ride-a-longsare scheduled beyond regular class times. A demonstration at the Police FiringRange will allow recruits to participate in mock scenarios where an officer mayor may not have to fire their weapon.
Applicants must be Greenwichresidents or Town employees, 18 years of age or older. There is no fee for theprogram; however, the Department requests that applicants be committed to thefull eight-week program. The class size is limited to 40 students. Due to thehigh demand for this course, qualified applicants will be subject to a lotterydrawing to determine the final class roster. A criminal history backgroundcheck will be performed on all qualified applicants. Accepted recruits will becontacted upon completion of the background check.
