Bailiwick Road Bridge
The Engineering Division has commenced replacing the Bailiwick Road Bridge in its entirety through the Federal Local Bridge Program. The bridge is located on Bailiwick Road at the intersection of Riversville Road and crosses over the Byram River. This work involves removing the existing bridge built in 1955, repaired in 2007 and constructing a new bridge. Construction began on Monday, May 07, 2018, while utilities were being relocated between May 2nd and July 26th.
At the request of the Bailiwick Homeowners, the bridge was redesigned to incorporate ashlar stone facing, higher endwalls and minimize guardrail. These changes required construction to be halted so that the concrete could be redesigned, the State could review the revised hydraulic and load ratings, the rebar submittals could be revised and resubmitted and lead time needed to order the new materials. Also incorporated into the redesign were revisions to the design of the west wingwall to accommodate an existing watermain, revisions to drainage and roadway design. In addition, a request for widening the bridge was denied.
Work is expected to recommence on Monday, November 5th weather depending. Traffic on Riversville Road will be maintained in each direction, traffic through Bailiwick Road will be detoured through Angelus Drive. Work will begin at approx. 7 a.m. each day, finishing up by approx. 5 p.m. The contractor is expected to work through the winter months to expedite the completion of the project is weather permits. The anticipated completion of the project is September 2019.
