Old Greenwich Common Force Main Replacement
Project Overview
Department of Public Works, Sewer Division, strives to provide reliable service to the Town and implement important maintenance projects that protect the environment. This is an essential project that will improve the longevity and reliability of the most critical sewer force main in the Town of Greenwich’s sewer system. The segment of the Old Greenwich Common Force Main for this project carries wastewater under pressure from the Old Greenwich Pumping Station – Greenwich’s largest sewer pump station.
Project Update
On September 27, 2022, trench restoration work in all six work zones was completed two weeks ahead of schedule! Please note that due to outside work being performed by Aquarion Water Company and Connecticut Natural Gas within the limits of this project, final curb-to-curb paving will not occur until sometime in 2023 after all utility work is finished.
Work Zone Locations
- Work Zone 1 -- Near the Riverside Train Station Parking Lot entrance off Oval Avenue.
- Work Zone 2 -- Oval Avenue between Terrace Avenue and Summit Avenue.
- Work Zone 3 -- Summit Road, starting where Summit Road meets Oval Avenue to Spruce Street.
- Work Zone 4 -- Summit Road, between Spruce Street and Spring Street.
- Work Zone 5 -- Summit Road, between Spring Street and Riverside Avenue.
- Work Zone 6 -- Traffic circle where Arch Street, West End Avenue, and Summit Road meet.
Project Progress:
- 9/27/22 -- Final trench restoration work in all six work zones was completed (two weeks ahead of schedule).
- 9/23/22 -- Final trench restoration work in Work Zone 4 and Work Zone 6 is anticipated to be completed.
- 9/22/22 -- Final trench restoration work in Work Zone 1, Work Zone 2, and Work Zone 3 were completed.
- 9/21/22 -- Final trench restoration work in Work Zone 2 and Work Zone 3 began.
- 9/20/22 -- Final trench restoration work in Work Zone 1 began.
- 9/19/22 -- Final trench restoration work in Work Zone 6 began.
- 12/21 -- Work Zone 6 construction was completed.
- 12/7/21 -- Construction began on Work Zone 6 (traffic circle where Arch Street, West End Avenue, and Summit Road meet).
- 10/22/21 -- Construction began on Work Zone 5 (Summit Road, between Spring Street and Riverside Avenue). In this phase, a large amount of rock removal was required.
- 9/28/21 -- Construction began on Work Zone 4 (Summit Road, between Spruce Street and Spring Street).
- 9/9/21 -- Construction began on Work Zone 3 (Summit Road, starting where Summit Road meets Oval Avenue to Spruce Street).
- 8/27/21 -- Construction began on Work Zone 2 (Oval Avenue between Terrace Avenue and Summit Road). This phase of the project was completed ahead of time.
- 8/16/21 -- Construction began on Work Zone 1 (near the Riverside Train Station Parking Lot entrance off of Oval Avenue). Temporary road closures took place on Oval Avenue, between lake Drive 1 and Terrace Avenue from 7 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday. Work Zone 1 was completed in under 2 weeks, including one day lost due to weather, this phase of the project was finished ahead of time.
